Highland MP Seeks Public’s View on Energy Bills

Local MP Drew Hendry has launched a new online survey on energy bills as the cost of living crisis worsens.

The initiative comes just weeks after the NIESR published an alarming report stating that 1.5 million households in the UK will struggle to pay for food and energy.

Mr Hendry has long campaigned to end of unfair energy transmission charges, which disproportionately affect Highland homes.

He also recently took a bill to the UK Parliament to call the UK Government and Ofgem to end the price discrimination on off-grid homes.

The survey, which can be accessed via Mr Hendry’s website, will run for several weeks.

The Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey MP says that issues with energy bills and energy companies are at the very top of issues he is contacted with at the moment.

Commenting, Drew Hendry MP said:

“The survey is quick and simple to complete – it should take about 2 minutes and the data collected is anonymous.

“It’s about trying to get a handle on where the real issues are – the specific issues – that folk in the Highlands are facing right now.

“This is, by far, the issue I am contacted about the most right now but I’m aware that many people, for whatever reason, won’t contact their MP seeking help.

“Of course, my team and I are always on hand to offer assistance where we can, but this survey will be invaluable in analysing where we can best push for action from the energy companies and the UK Government.

“The rising cost of living is the biggest issue our communities face and I’m hoping to get as many survey responses as possible to help.

“I would be very grateful if you could spend two minutes filling it out – it will make a difference.”
