Highland Council is set to launch the Highland Trusted Trader scheme early next year, inviting local businesses to join and gain recognition for fair trading practices.
This initiative aims to protect consumers from rogue traders while boosting confidence in vetted local businesses.
By becoming part of the scheme, businesses can showcase their credentials to Highland residents and consumers, gaining access to official logos and marketing materials.
Eligible businesses must have a minimum of six months of clean trading history and agree to adhere to a strict code of practice overseen by Trading Standards.
David MacKenzie, Trading Standards Manager, said:
“This scheme is designed to safeguard consumers from scams and poor-quality work while ensuring traders are held accountable for their practices.”
Members will undergo rigorous vetting, ensuring they meet high standards of professionalism and integrity.
The first 20 businesses to sign up will benefit from a discounted annual membership fee of £120, a 50% reduction on the usual £240 cost.
Highland Trusted Trader is part of the Scotland Trusted Trader network, which supports 18 schemes across the country and boasts a 96.1% membership renewal rate.
Participants report increased customer trust and lead generation as key benefits of joining the network.
Once enough Highland-based businesses are enrolled, the council will officially launch and promote the scheme to residents.
Interested traders can apply or find out more via the Trusted Trader website, ensuring they are part of this consumer-focused initiative.
This scheme represents a proactive step towards fostering trust and excellence in the local business community.
