A number of roads across Inverness will close this weekend as thousands of participants prepare to take part in the annual Race for Life events in the city.
The temporary closures will be in place on Sunday 31 May between 8am and 1.30pm to allow the safe running of the Race for Life 5K and 10K events organised in support of Cancer Research UK.
Roads affected include sections of Bught Road, Ness Walk, Ardross Terrace, Castle Road, Ness Bank and Cavell Gardens Road alongside restrictions around Infirmary Bridge.
The events are expected to once again attract large crowds of runners, walkers, families and supporters gathering in Inverness to raise money for cancer research and support services.
Drivers are being advised to plan ahead and allow additional time for journeys across the city centre and riverside areas during the closures.
Among the affected routes will be Bught Road between Bught Avenue and Ness Walk Upper, while sections of Ness Walk Upper between Ballifeary Lane and Bishop’s Road will also be closed.
Parts of Ardross Terrace and Ness Walk will shut fully to traffic, while Castle Road between Haugh Road and Bridge Street will operate with access maintained for southbound traffic only.
Ness Bank and Cavell Gardens Road will also close to through traffic between Castle Road and Island Bank Road.
Emergency service vehicles, escorted vehicles and vehicles directly involved in event safety operations will remain exempt from the restrictions.
Race for Life events have become a familiar part of the Highland calendar over recent years, combining fundraising with community participation and remembrance for families affected by cancer.
The Inverness event regularly attracts participants of all ages and abilities, many taking part in memory of loved ones or to support friends and family currently facing cancer treatment.
Organisers are encouraging participants and spectators to arrive early and make use of alternative routes and parking arrangements where possible.
The temporary restrictions will remain in force until 1.30pm before roads gradually reopen following the completion of the events.
