Families across the Highlands are being offered the chance to explore some of Scotland’s best known historic attractions for less this summer through a new discount initiative from Historic Scotland.
The Historic Summer campaign will provide UK residents with 20 per cent off admission tickets at participating sites between 26 June and 1 September 2026.
Among the locations included is Fort George near Inverness, one of the Highlands’ most recognisable landmarks and an impressive coastal fortress that has stood guard over the Moray Firth for almost 250 years.
The campaign aims to encourage people to rediscover places closer to home while also inspiring visitors to travel further afield and experience other parts of the country.
For Highland families searching for affordable summer activities, the offer arrives at a time when many are looking for ways to enjoy days out without stretching household budgets too far.
Fort George remains one of the region’s most popular visitor attractions, combining military history with spectacular views across the Moray Firth and the possibility of spotting dolphins offshore.
Other sites taking part include Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness, Elgin Cathedral, Dunstaffnage Castle and Chapel near Oban and Iona Abbey.
Across Scotland, visitors can also enjoy discounted access to major attractions including Stirling Castle, Melrose Abbey, Skara Brae and Doune Castle.
Melrose Abbey is traditionally regarded as the resting place of the heart of Robert the Bruce and is even home to its own bagpiping pig statue, while Stirling Castle once served as the seat of royal power for Scotland’s monarchs.
Olivia Devine, Senior Marketing Manager at Historic Environment Scotland, said the initiative was designed to help more people connect with Scotland’s rich heritage.
“Summer is a wonderful time to visit our sites across Scotland, and we want as many people to enjoy them as possible.
“We hope the offer will encourage people to rediscover their local landmarks or travel somewhere they haven’t been before.
“We have such rich history at our fingertips in Scotland, and many of our sites can be found within some of the most beautiful landscapes the country has to offer.
“Historic Summer will allow people and families to make new memories in wonderful places!”
Historic Summer tickets are limited and must be booked online in advance.
Each ticket provides admission to one participating site and cannot be used at multiple attractions.
Visitors using the offer will also be asked to provide proof of a UK address when they arrive.
