Over 300 people have responded to a new survey on the impact of rising energy bills on local households in its first week.
The energy costs survey, which was launched by local MP, Drew Hendry, asks respondents to share how the energy price hike has affected their families.
Mr Hendry hopes the information captured through the online survey will help create a better understanding of all the ways households are being affected by the rise in energy prices.
This initiative is the latest move by the SNP MP to tackle rising energy costs.
Mr Hendry has long campaigned to end unfair energy transmission charges which disproportionately affect Highland homes and also recently took a bill to the UK Parliament to call the UK Government and Ofgem to end the price discrimination on off-grid homes.
The survey will run until the end of the month and Mr Hendry is encouraging local people to add their voices to the survey, to build a full picture of all the impacts of the energy crisis on Highland households.
Commenting, Mr Hendry said:
“The surge in the cost of living is the biggest problem we face and energy bills are a huge part of that.
“The data we’re receiving is invaluable – each response allows us to see the real issues that are affecting different households.
“Energy costs are, by far, the biggest issue I am contacted about right now but I’m aware that many people, for whatever reason, won’t contact their MP seeking help.
“By taking a couple of minutes to complete this anonymous survey, folk can add their voice to my campaign calling on the UK Government to do more to support households through the energy crisis.
“The number of submissions we’ve had so far is more than expected.
“Each story will undoubtedly help us when dealing with the UK Government and energy companies, but I also know each response represents a household who may be struggling with their bills.
“All that being said, if you haven’t already done so, I would be most grateful if you could spare two minutes of your time to share your views – it will make a difference and it’s a chance to make your voice heard.”
