Work to enhance active travel infrastructure on the A9 between Kessock Bridge and North Kessock Junction is set to begin on Monday, 2 December, and will continue until Friday, 20 December.
The project, led by BEAR Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland, includes widening and resurfacing a section of the shared-use footway that forms part of National Cycle Route 1, as well as upgrading the existing safety barrier.
These improvements aim to make the route safer and more accessible for those walking, wheeling, or cycling, complementing upgrades completed earlier this year in January.
To ensure the safety of workers and road users, one lane on the northbound carriageway will close between 7 am and 3:30 pm on weekdays, with no work scheduled during weekends.
A 30mph speed limit will also be enforced throughout the duration of the works to maintain safety in the area.
The existing National Cycle Route 1 adjacent to the A9 will be closed north of the bus stop layby, with pedestrians and cyclists diverted to the alternative route through North Kessock.
Ian Stewart, North West Representative for BEAR Scotland, highlighted the importance of the works, saying:
“These upgrades will improve safety, quality, and comfort, providing a high-standard active travel route between North Kessock Junction and Kessock Bridge.”
Traffic management measures are essential, Stewart noted, to protect workers as they focus on the nearside verge improvements.
Up-to-date travel information will be available via Traffic Scotland at www.traffic.gov.scot or on social media at @trafficscotland.
As with all roadworks, the schedule depends on weather conditions, with possible delays in case of adverse weather.
