Alliance to Liberate Scotland has launched a new recruitment drive as the independence organisation returns to campaigning following a short break after the recent election.
The group is planning an online gathering this autumn and an in person conference next spring as it begins considering its approach to the forthcoming council elections.
Supporters from across the wider independence movement are being invited to take part, with the Alliance describing the events as opportunities to exchange ideas, strengthen its organisation and consider the next stages of its campaign.
Recruitment will be a major focus in the months ahead, with existing members being encouraged to bring another supporter into the organisation.
The Alliance believes doubling up in this way could significantly expand its membership and provide more people willing to campaign locally.
Attention will also turn towards the forthcoming council elections, with the organisation confirming it will consider whether to put forward candidates.
No decision has yet been announced on contesting those elections, but the Alliance says its central political position will remain unchanged under the message “Independence Nothing Else. Independence Nothing Less.”
The organisation is also encouraging supporters to watch and share Prism, which it describes as an important tool for promoting its independence message.
Local groups capable of attracting an audience are being invited to express an interest in bringing Prism to their area.
The Alliance’s Campaigner App is also now fully operational and available to members who want to campaign and canvass in their communities.
The technology is intended to help activists make contact with voters on the doorstep and organise campaigning more effectively.
Alongside the wider membership drive, the Alliance is seeking Area Organisers across Scotland who can become local representatives and provide a link between communities and the organisation’s headquarters.
Those volunteers would act as points of contact in their areas while helping coordinate announcements and local activity.
The renewed activity follows an election period after which the organisation temporarily stepped back before beginning preparations for its next phase.
Its return comes as Scotland’s constitutional future remains firmly on the political agenda, with the Scottish Government having recently published a draft Independence Referendum Bill setting out its proposed framework for another vote if the necessary powers are secured.
For Alliance to Liberate Scotland, the immediate task is now rebuilding campaigning capacity, expanding membership and deciding what role it intends to play when Scotland next goes to the polls.
