Inverness Pupils Step Behind The Camera to Promote Better Bus Travel

Pupils from Inverness Royal Academy have been putting their filmmaking talents to practical use by creating a short film promoting good behaviour and etiquette on buses.

Members of the school’s Filmmaking Club recently visited The Highland Council Bus Depot as part of a collaborative project aimed at encouraging respectful and responsible travel.

The group of ten pupils travelled to and from the depot on a regular bus service alongside their teacher, Miss Friedman, giving them first hand experience of using public transport as passengers.

Once at the depot, the young filmmakers set about producing a video focused on bus rules, passenger expectations and the importance of treating fellow travellers with consideration.

The project allowed pupils to apply their creative skills in a real world environment while learning more about the role public transport plays in everyday life.

By filming on location and working together to capture footage, the students gained experience in planning, production and storytelling while helping to promote positive messages for bus users.

Councillor Ken Gowans, Chair of the Economy and Infrastructure Committee, praised the enthusiasm shown by the pupils.

“It’s fantastic to see such creativity and enthusiasm from the pupils at Inverness Royal Academy.

“This project is a great example of young people using their talents to promote positive behaviour and support our public transport network.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and commitment, and I very much look forward to seeing the finished film.”

For the pupils involved, the visit offered an opportunity to combine classroom learning with practical experience, demonstrating how creative projects can help communicate important messages in an engaging way.

The club is now editing the footage and putting the finishing touches to the film, with the aim of completing the project before the start of the summer holidays.

What began as a visit to the bus depot has become a chance for young people to showcase their creativity while helping encourage the kind of small everyday behaviours that can make journeys more pleasant for everyone.
