Labour MSP’s Must Reject Starmer Nuclear Reactors in Scotland

The SNP has challenged Labour MSPs to vote against putting Sir Keir Starmer’s nuclear reactors in Scottish communities.

The SNP Scottish Government uses their planning powers to block any new nuclear power stations being built in Scotland.

In stark contrast, the Labour leader in Scotland Anas Sarwar has rolled over for the Prime Minister and confirmed his party would give the go ahead to nuclear power in Scotland – despite the radioactive waste they produce remaining dangerous for thousands of years.

The SNP has prioritised investing in renewable energy in Scotland, leveraging public money to ensure that communities across Scotland benefit from our vast renewable potential.

This urge to invest billions of pounds in nuclear energy comes at a time when the Labour Party have just broken their promise and hiked energy bills for a third time.

The SNP has urged MSPs to rule out supporting the introduction of nuclear power stations in Scotland at Holyrood today.

Commenting, Jackie Dunbar MSP said:

“Today MSPs have the opportunity to reject putting nuclear power stations within touching distance of our communities – we must show a united front that we are against this.

“I know that the people of Scotland will be extremely concerned at the prospect of a Labour nuclear power plant being put in their back gardens – the SNP will not let that happen.

“I am strongly urging all MSPs, particularly Labour MSPs, to join me in condemning these plans.

“Labour MSPs must know that Renewables are cheaper, safer, quicker to deploy, and support more employment than nuclear.”

“Scotland has so much to gain from investment in renewable energy, that is our future, not nuclear.”
