Runners up and down the country – and across the globe – are getting ready to run through some of the world’s most stunning scenery this October… and there’s still time to join them.

This is the last chance to sign up for the Baxters River Ness 10K and 5K – as well as the 10K Corporate Challenge – at the landmark 20th Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running.

Registration for the events is open until midnight on September 26.

Keen long-distance runners can also sign up for the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon, with places still available for club and international runners, members of Scottish Athletics, or those raising funds for charity.

Race director Malcolm Sutherland said:

“As we approach the 20th Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running, we can feel excitement rippling through the running community.

“Now more than ever, we are aware of the benefits of getting outside and ensuring we’re not cooped up indoors for too long.

“What better way to do that than by traversing some of the most challenging and beautiful roads there are?”

Recently named by industry title Runners Tribe as one of the “best marathons you should have on your bucket list,” the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon is widely regarded as one of the most scenic 26.2 miles in the world.

And its sister races – the Baxters River Ness 10K and 5K – also offer stunning views of the local area and Inverness.

Malcolm continued:

“Whether you’re looking for a monster challenge and some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery – or a short, flatter course that allows you to focus on your fitness and beating that PB – there’s something for everyone at Loch Ness this October.”

The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running is one of the world’s most popular running events, and takes place in 2022 on October 2.

The point-to-point marathon starts in atmospheric Highland moorlands, stretching 26.2 miles along the south-eastern shores of the iconic Loch Ness and finishing in the Highland capital, Inverness.

The Festival of Running also comprises the River Ness 10K and 10K Corporate Challenge; River Ness 5K; and the Wee Nessie for under-5s.

Spectators are encouraged to line the finish line at Bught Park to cheer runners over the finish line.

Participants and spectators can also visit a free sports expo showcasing the latest running apparel and equipment; sample delicious street food; enjoy live music and kids’ activities across the weekend; and visit the Runners Cafe.

BBC Scotland’s Bryan Burnett – a regular fixture at the event – will host a series of informative talks and Q&As in the Runners Cafe throughout the Saturday, featuring notable names from the running world.

Sign up for the Baxters River Ness 10K and 5K – and the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon – at www.lochnessmarathon.com by midnight on September 26.
