The Highland Council has installed temporary traffic signs, warning drivers of limited parking availability on the B8008 coastal road from Morar – Arisaig.
Principal Traffic Officer for The Highland Council, Shane Manning said:
“The new signage is in place to alert drivers visiting the popular coastal road and beaches of the B8008 that there is limited parking availability.
“It is hoped that the warning signs will alert drivers of parking constraints, encourage responsible parking and make people consider the duration of their stay and the impact it may have on other road users and vital emergency services.”
The Highland Council has invested in improved road safety works on the B8008 this year to help elevate congestion and aim to prevent road blockages that were experienced in the height of the summer 2021 and 2020.
The B8008 road at Traigh, near the golf course is a single lane with passing places, the road was extremely damaged by erosion on the beach side caused by vehicles mounting the grass and beach embankments.
The banking has been reinstated and built up to prevent vehicles from parking in the most dangerous and narrow parts of the road.
This should improve driver and pedestrian visibility and road safety along the Traigh beach area.
There are also areas restricted by double yellow line – No Waiting at Any Time, to ensure the passage of emergency vehicles is maintained. Parking Enforcement Officers patrol the area and will also enforce No Waiting Cones when present along the route.
People visiting the area and wishing to visit the incredible beaches and coastline should consider active travel or using public transport to reduce the volume of vehicles wishing to access the area in peak season.
