Richard Lochhead MSP (pictured) has welcomed the decision by MoD bosses to halt maintenance works on RAF houses on South Covesea Terrace in Lossiemouth.

Mr Lochhead had previously raised the local communities concerns with the Station Commander and MoD bosses over construction workers travelling from other parts of the UK to work on non-essential MoD projects both sides of the wire.

Commenting Moray’s MSP said:

“I’ve been inundated with emails and messages from constituents, including military families, expressing serious concern about construction workers moving in and out of the area to carry out maintenance on RAF houses and conveyed these concerns to the MoD.

“I’m pleased that maintenance on the houses will be stopped.

“I’ve no doubt that the families in South Covesea Terrace and the wider community will be relieved that this is decision has been taken.

“However, the MoD needs to give a clear and detailed outline of what works are continuing so the community knows exactly what is going on, and so they can be assured that workers will no longer be moving in and out of the area to work on MoD projects.

“Assurances are needed that all non-essential construction and maintenance work, both sides of the wire, will be stopped until restrictions to limit the spread of the Coronavirus are lifted.”
