Richard Lochhead, MSP for Moray, has welcomed a £40m funding package for Forres based space rocket manufacturers Orbex.

The funding includes investment from the Scottish National Investment Bank, which was established and backed by the Scottish Government, and also Jacobs who provide services to NASA.

Commenting Mr Lochhead said:

“Scotland is leading the way in terms of creating space sector jobs in the UK and with Orbex’s facility in Forres, Moray is playing a big role in the development of rockets that will be reusable and powered by renewable bio-fuels.

“This investment in Orbex is hugely welcome and demonstrates just how far the company has come since opening its doors in Forres just a few years ago.

“It was only a few months ago that Orbex unveiled its first full scale rocket prototype and this funding will be a real boost for their ambitious plans to assemble space rockets fit for the future, and to create opportunities for young people in Moray to work in rocket science right here on their doorstep.”
