A 56-year-old man has been found guilty of a series of serious sexual offences against children in his care at a residential home in Oban.
Alexander Boyd was convicted at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday, 3 November 2025, of four charges including rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault.
The offences were committed between 1998 and 1999 and involved two young girls who had been placed in Boyd’s care.
His crimes came to light after witnesses came forward and spoke to police, leading to a detailed investigation by Police Scotland’s Public Protection Unit.
Boyd is due to be sentenced at the same court on Tuesday, 9 December 2025.
Detective Inspector Peter MacMillan, who led the investigation, said Boyd had “abused his position of trust” to commit horrific acts against vulnerable children.
“Boyd was being paid to look after these children and instead took advantage and committed crimes at a place where they should have been safe,” he said.
He praised the bravery of those who came forward and reaffirmed Police Scotland’s commitment to investigating abuse, no matter how long ago it occurred.
“Police Scotland will fully investigate abuse wherever it occurs and whoever the perpetrator is,” said DI MacMillan.
“I’d encourage anyone with concerns about sexual abuse to contact officers or one of our partner support services.
“They will listen and they will investigate.”
Support is available for survivors of abuse through Police Scotland and a range of national and local organisations including Rape Crisis Scotland and Children 1st.
