New Homes Bring Fresh Start for Families in Aberlour

Dozens of new affordable homes have been officially handed over in Aberlour, providing much needed housing for local people and marking another milestone in efforts to address housing demand across Moray.

Springfield Partnerships has completed the first phase of its Speyview development, delivering 39 affordable homes for Moray Council tenants, with residents already beginning to settle into their new properties.

The development includes a mix of housing designed to meet a range of local needs, from one bedroom cottage flats and accessible bungalows to larger family homes with up to five bedrooms.

For one new resident, the move represents far more than simply changing address.

Thirty six year old Kyle has recently moved into one of the development’s accessible two bedroom bungalows after spending several years living in assisted accommodation due to a shortage of suitable housing.

His mother said:

“It’s a huge milestone for Kyle to get the keys to his own house.

“Its accessible layout and enclosed garden mean it’s perfectly suited to Kyle’s needs and will make life easier for his carers too.

“Aberlour is an ideal location, with family living locally and shops and services nearby.

“We’re looking forward to spending lots of quality time with Kyle in his new home during this exciting new chapter in his life.”

The homes form part of the Moray Growth Deal’s Housing Mix Delivery project, which aims to create up to 300 affordable homes across communities including Elgin, Forres, Speyside and the Buckie area.

Infrastructure delivered through the Speyview development will also support a second phase of construction, with a further 31 council homes planned for completion during winter 2026 and 2027.

Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice and Housing Shirley Anne Somerville said the project would provide lasting benefits for the area.

She said:

“This project will have a hugely positive impact in the community, providing a mix of housing options for people who wish to live and work in the area.”

Moray Council’s Housing and Community Safety Committee Chair, Councillor Amber Dunbar, welcomed the completion of the first phase and the impact it will have on local families seeking secure housing.

Meanwhile Springfield Partnerships Managing Director Tom Leggeat said meeting Kyle and his family highlighted the importance of delivering homes that genuinely change lives.

He said:

“It was gratifying to meet with Kyle, his family and support workers, to hear the positive impact his new home within Speyview will have for him going forward, serving as an important reminder of the importance of building new, quality homes for people who need them.”

For many of the new residents moving into Speyview, the development represents more than bricks and mortar.

It offers security, independence and the chance to put down roots in the heart of the Speyside community.
