Duncan MacAlister, the newly elected Vice-President of NFU Scotland, is heading to Skye and the Western Isles for a three-day roadshow.
The tour aims to connect directly with crofters and farmers to discuss the challenges, concerns and opportunities within these communities.
MacAlister, who farms in Kintyre, is wasting no time in meeting members face-to-face following his election in February.
The roadshow kicks off on Monday 25 March at 7:30pm at the Skye Camanachd Social Club in Portree.
MacAlister has been working tirelessly since his appointment, including lobbying against proposed taxation changes in London.
Representing crofting members is a key part of his role, and he is keen to gain firsthand knowledge of the pressing issues facing them.
He plans to take these insights back to NFU Scotland’s policy team to influence future lobbying efforts.
MacAlister is grateful to Jake Sayles, NFU Mutual Group Secretary for Lochalsh, Skye and the Outer Hebrides, and the local NFU Scotland branches for organising the meetings.
NFU Scotland members are invited to attend one of the following events:
Monday 25 March at 7:30pm – Skye Camanachd Social Club, Pairc Nan Loach, Struan Road, Portree, IV51 9EG.
Tuesday 26 March at 7pm – Dark Island Hotel, Liniclate, Benbecula, HS7 5PJ.
Wednesday 27 March at 7pm – An Lanntair, Kenneth Street, Stornoway, HS1 2DS.
Members are encouraged to take part in these sessions to share their experiences and discuss the issues that matter most to them.
For more information and to confirm attendance, contact Jake Sayles on 07966 882539 or email Jake_j_sayles@nfumutual.co.uk.
This roadshow marks an important step in strengthening NFU Scotland’s engagement with crofters and farmers across Skye and the Western Isles.
By listening directly to those on the ground, MacAlister hopes to ensure their voices are heard at a national level.
