New Programme Offers a Warm Welcome to Mums Ready to Reconnect

A fresh six-week initiative is set to begin in Elgin this week, offering mums a chance to rediscover themselves, try something new and meet like-minded women in a friendly space.

The programme, called Mums Xplore, begins on Thursday 15 May at the Fika Child and Family Centre on South College Street, with weekly sessions running from 10am to midday.

Created by Moray Pathways and Community Learning and Development, the sessions aim to support mums by helping them reconnect with past passions, build new skills and take much-needed time for themselves.

It’s not just about trying a pottery class or picking up a paintbrush, though those are certainly on the cards.

At its heart, Mums Xplore is about creating a space where mothers can focus on their own wellbeing, grow in confidence and feel more connected to their community.

Children’s activities will be provided free of charge throughout the sessions, lifting the pressure of childcare and ensuring mums can fully take part without worrying what their little ones are up to.

This thoughtful touch makes it easier for more women to join in, especially those who might otherwise feel unable to attend.

Cllr Kathleen Robertson, Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Communities and Leisure Services Committee, sees the programme as a powerful opportunity.

“Mums Xplore is a great opportunity for mothers to re-engage with their interests and ambitions in a friendly and inclusive setting,” she said.

“It’s not just about trying new activities – the sessions give mums time and space to focus on themselves, connect with others and build confidence.”

Following the Elgin launch, more sessions are expected to roll out across Moray throughout the year, opening the doors to even more women across the region.

With a gentle, welcoming feel and a focus on self-care and growth, Mums Xplore is set to offer much more than just a morning out of the house.

It’s a timely reminder that mums deserve time, space and support to flourish, not just survive.
