The latest edition of ‘Shetland in Statistics’ has been published, containing facts and figures on many aspects of Shetland’s economy, culture, society and physical characteristics.
First published in 1972 as a printed almanac, the publication has had a brief hiatus since 2017 before now being relaunched as a digital resource on Shetland Islands Council’s website.
On the website there is a full downloadable PDF version, which has a similar format to previous printed editions, along with at-a-glance 2023 statistics for each of the main categories.
The 2023 edition of Shetland in Statistics retains key datasets from previous editions, including population, economy, weather, transport, education and other topics.
Additions also include more in-depth information on the Third Sector, including volunteering and grant funding; as well as Energy Usage, including carbon dioxide emissions and registration of electric vehicles.
The document will be updated annually and previous editions are also available for download, which will be added to as older versions are digitised.
To ensure accuracy, anyone using the data for anything other than general interest should refer to the source data which is quoted throughout the document.
Any feedback or queries relating to Shetland in Statistics should be directed to the Council’s Economic Development Service.
Tommy Coutts, Executive Manager – Economic Development, said:
“Shetland in Statistics has been an important reference document for many years, recording the facts and figures of many aspects of Shetland life.
“We’re pleased to publish the latest version for 2023 as a digital resource and look forward to updating this in future years.
“Data trends help business sectors and organisations to plan ahead for the future and we hope this publication will also be of interest to many who simply enjoy browsing or analysing figures.”
