Health Board now ready to recruit key maternity roles

Richard Lochhead MSP today joined an MSP/MP briefing from NHS Grampian on the plans for the future of Dr Gray’s Hospital.

During these discussions, NHS Grampian confirmed they are now ready to start recruitment for key posts that are part of plans to restore maternity services at Dr Gray’s.

Mr Lochhead is now seeking urgent approval of funding from the Scottish Government to allow these posts to be filled as quickly as possible.

Commenting Moray’s SNP MSP said:

“I was pleased to get an update from NHS Grampian on work to develop plans for the future of Dr Gray’s Hospital that was recently approved by the health board.

“Dr Gray’s has the potential to be a real centre of excellence around innovation and training, and it is vital that NHS Grampian delivers on its commitment to developing an ambitious plan for the hospital.

“That must include making sure services available at Dr Gray’s meet the needs of the local population, a modern estate for staff and patients, and reducing the number of people having to travel from Moray to Aberdeen for care.

“Restoration of maternity services is of course a key part of plans for Dr Gray’s future and NHS Grampian confirmed to me they are now ready to start recruitment for staff needed to reinstate those services.

“Hopefully now that the Scottish Government has passed its budget this week, the health board will quickly be given the green light to go ahead and recruit, and I am in touch with the Health Secretary to ensure that is the case.”
