Orkney Transport has been awarded the contract to continue operating the cruise shuttle bus service for vessels docking at Hatston Pier in Kirkwall.

The contract, effective from 3 February 2025, will run for three years with an option to extend for an additional two years.

The shuttle bus plays a vital role in supporting the smooth transit of cruise passengers, enhancing their experience during visits to Orkney.

Councillor Kristopher Leask, Chair of the Council’s Development and Infrastructure Committee and Harbour Authority Sub-committee, highlighted the importance of maintaining service consistency.

“The awarding of the contract to Orkney Transport allows the Council’s Harbour Authority to offer a continuity of service to our cruise passengers,” said Councillor Leask.

Orkney welcomes over 100 cruise ships annually to Hatston Pier, with the shuttle service being a key component of the region’s first-class hospitality offering.

“We will work with Orkney Transport to look at continual improvements in the service that benefit Orkney in providing a sustainable tourism future,” added Leask.

This partnership aims to support Orkney’s thriving cruise tourism sector, contributing to the local economy while promoting sustainable travel solutions.
