Peugeot has announced the return of its legendary GTi badge with the unveiling of the new Peugeot E-208 GTi, marking the beginning of a new chapter for one of the brand’s most celebrated performance models.
The production version of the all electric hot hatch will be officially revealed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 12 June, exactly one year after Peugeot first unveiled the concept that reignited excitement among GTi enthusiasts.
The announcement comes as Peugeot celebrates 100 years since its first appearance at the famous endurance race.
The new E-208 GTi remains remarkably faithful to the concept revealed at Le Mans in June 2025.
Peugeot says the enthusiastic response from customers and GTi fans encouraged designers and engineers to keep the production model closely aligned with the original vision.
Designed by Peugeot Design and developed alongside Peugeot Sport, the car aims to blend the traditional GTi characteristics of driving enjoyment and performance with the latest electric vehicle technology.
The model also continues a lineage that stretches back more than four decades to the iconic Peugeot 205 GTi, a car widely regarded as one of the greatest hot hatches ever produced.
Peugeot believes the E-208 GTi captures the same spirit while embracing a new era of electrification.
Three production models finished in blue, white and red will be displayed at Le Mans, highlighting the brand’s French heritage and celebrating its return to one of motorsport’s most famous stages.
While full performance figures have not yet been released, Peugeot is promising a car capable of delivering the excitement traditionally associated with the GTi name.
Key specifications and technical details will be announced by Peugeot Chief Executive Alain Favey during a press conference at Le Mans on 12 June.
The company says the E-208 GTi has been conceived and designed entirely in France and reflects its commitment to making driving pleasure a central part of the brand’s future.
The launch is significant not only because it marks the return of the GTi badge, but because it introduces the first fully electric GTi model in the company’s history.
For many enthusiasts, the GTi badge represents far more than performance.
It symbolises accessible driving enjoyment, sharp handling and cars that put smiles on faces long after the journey ends.
Peugeot is now betting that the same formula can succeed in the electric age.
With the official unveiling only days away, motoring enthusiasts across Europe will be watching closely to see whether the E-208 GTi can live up to the reputation created by its legendary predecessors.
If it does, one of the motoring world’s most famous badges could be about to begin its most important chapter yet.
