Police Appeal After Dangerous Items Found on Oban Woodland Trail

Police Scotland is appealing for information after dangerous items were discovered on a woodland path in Oban.

Officers were alerted on Saturday 25 April after metal wire was found tied across a path in Glencruitten Woods, creating a serious hazard for anyone using the trail.

The incident follows an earlier report on Thursday 2 April when metal spikes were found in the same area, raising concerns the two may be connected.

Inspector Kirsty Moore said:

“One line of enquiry is that these two incidents are linked and patrols are being carried out in the area.

“The metal wire was placed intentionally across the path and represented a significant danger to walkers, cyclists, dogs, horses and their riders.

“This kind of behaviour is not acceptable.

“If not seen it could have caused serious injury.

“We are urging the public using the area to be vigilant and report any similar incidents to us.

“You can speak to our officers on patrol, contact us on 101 or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Police have increased patrols in the area as enquiries continue into the incidents.

Members of the public are being asked to remain alert while using the woodland trails and to report anything suspicious immediately.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland quoting incident number 1000 of Saturday 25 April 2026.
