Police Scotland Safety Cameras Speed Campaign Highlights The Story Behind Speed Cameras

The Police Scotland Safety Cameras – There’s a story behind every camera campaign launches today.

The new campaign highlights the risks of speeding and that our cameras are placed at collision hotspots to help ensure those stories don’t happen again.

The campaign will run across streaming services and digital channels, focusing on the message that there’s a story behind every speed camera.

That story involves someone having been injured or killed because of driving too fast.

Speed cameras are there to make the road safer for all road users and help ensure those stories don’t happen again.

In 2022 there were 5,621 people reported injured on roads across Scotland.

Police Scotland Safety Cameras aim is to reduce the number of people injured on our roads through targeted camera enforcement and improving driver behaviour.

By locating our safety cameras at collision hotspots, we encourage drivers to reduce their speed and drive responsibly.

Travelling at safe speeds is shown to reduce the risk of road death and injury and enable more people to make safe and healthy journeys.

Not only does it give drivers enough time to spot and react to hazards on the road, but if an impact was to occur it would be less likely to cause serious injury or a fatality.

Eric Dunion, Area Manger for the North Safety Camera Unit said:

“When we see a speed camera the first thing most drivers think about is what speed they are going at.

“We rarely question why they are there.

“Most people don’t realise that it also means someone has been injured at this location previously as a result of speeding.

“Speeding is one of the main causes of road traffic collisions, but there are simple ways we can avoid them, the most obvious being to stay within the legal speed for the road.”
