Road users travelling on the A830 approaching Mallaig are being warned to expect delays later this month as essential safety improvements are carried out.
BEAR Scotland, acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to begin work replacing a safety barrier on Monday 13 July.
The project is scheduled to continue until Monday 27 July, with crews working daily between 8am and 6pm.
To allow the work to be completed safely, temporary traffic lights will be in place around the clock from Monday to Friday throughout the duration of the scheme.
A temporary 30mph speed limit will also remain in force at all times, including weekends, until the works are finished.
The improvements form part of ongoing efforts to maintain the safe operation of one of the Highlands’ most important transport routes.
The A830 serves communities across Lochaber and provides the main road connection to Mallaig, including access to ferry services and one of Scotland’s busiest tourism corridors.
Transport officials say consultation has taken place with stakeholders ahead of the project in an effort to minimise disruption.
Motorists are being encouraged to leave extra time for journeys, particularly during busier periods when queues may develop.
Michael Baxter, BEAR Scotland’s North West Improvements Scheme Manager, said:
“This safety barrier replacement project is key to the ongoing safe operation of the A830.
“The works have been planned to minimise disruption to road users as far as possible, however some delays may be experienced, especially during peak times.
“We thank road users in advance for their patience and understanding while our teams carry out these essential works, and ask that the temporary speed limit is adhered to.”
Drivers are advised to plan ahead and expect longer journey times while the traffic management remains in place.
