ScotRail is preparing for a busy summer of sport by boosting services across Glasgow during the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
More than 1,400 additional carriages will be added to trains throughout the Games as the rail operator ramps up capacity to help spectators, volunteers and workers travel to venues across the city.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games begin with the opening ceremony on Thursday 23 July and run until Sunday 2 August, bringing together 3,000 athletes from 74 countries for 11 days of competition.
Events will take place at venues including the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Arena, Scotstoun Stadium, Tollcross International Swimming Centre and the Scottish Event Campus.
ScotRail says a total of 1,452 extra carriages will be introduced over the course of the Games, providing thousands of additional seats on routes expected to experience the greatest demand.
Additional services will operate to stations serving key venues, including Dalmarnock, Exhibition Centre and Scotstounhill, while extra evening trains will help visitors make their journeys home after events conclude.
The rail operator is also increasing staffing levels across the network to provide assistance and help customers navigate what is expected to be a much busier period than normal.
With the Games taking place during the peak summer travel season, passengers are being advised to plan ahead, buy tickets before boarding and allow extra time for journeys.
The investment in extra capacity underlines the important role public transport will play in keeping people moving during one of Scotland’s biggest sporting events.
For Highland travellers planning to head south to experience the Games, the message is straightforward, prepare in advance and expect services to be busier as Glasgow welcomes competitors and spectators from around the world.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said:
