SNP Calls for Urgent Clarity on Scotland’s Share of UK Transport Funding

The SNP is urging the UK Government to guarantee that Scotland will receive its fair share of new transport funding, after billions of pounds were pledged for major projects south of the border.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced plans for sweeping investment in tram, train and bus networks across the Midlands, North of England and West Country.

With the UK Government’s spending review due next week, the SNP is calling for transparency to ensure Scotland is not left behind.

There is growing concern that the UK-wide decisions could impact devolved budgets, without proper consultation or clarity.

Kenneth Gibson MSP spoke out this week, warning that Scotland must not be shortchanged.

“Billions are being announced for transport in England, but there is still no clarity on what this means for Scotland,” he said.

“Westminster must not shortchange Scotland.

“We need urgent confirmation that a full Barnett consequential will be passed on.”

The SNP argues that while the Scottish Government continues to invest in local transport infrastructure, the UK Government must treat Scotland fairly when allocating new funding.

Gibson added:

“Labour is making big promises for England while leaving Scotland in the dark.

“We will not stand for Scotland being shortchanged.

“It is clear that only the SNP will stand up for Scotland’s interests in the face of a UK Government that treats Scotland as an afterthought.”

The party is calling for urgent assurances ahead of the spending review, as decisions made at Westminster have a direct impact on public services and investment across Scotland.

The coming days will be key in determining whether the Chancellor’s transport pledges are matched by fair and transparent funding for Scotland.
