Scotland fans preparing for another late night in front of the television have been thrown a lifeline ahead of the national team’s World Cup clash with Brazil.
With Steve Clarke’s side kicking off at 11pm on Wednesday night, supporters face another test of endurance as Scotland continue their bid to reach the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time.
After already staying up for matches against Haiti and Morocco, many fans are now staring down the prospect of another sleepless night as one of world football’s biggest fixtures arrives in the group stage.
Recognising the challenge facing supporters, Specsavers has stepped in with a tongue in cheek campaign aimed at helping Scotland fans survive the occasion.
As the Official Eye and Ear Care Partner of the Scottish FA, the company is giving away free eye drops from its 86 Scottish stores to help supporters keep their eyes fresh for what could be a long evening of football and celebrations.
The campaign does not stop there.
For those who may struggle to make it into work the following morning after watching the match, Specsavers has also produced a pre written sick note that can be downloaded through its social media channels.
The note allows fans to explain to their employer that a “very important eye test” means they will not be available until after lunch.

With no bank holiday to soften the impact of an 11pm kick off, unlike previous matches in the tournament, the campaign is likely to strike a chord with supporters determined not to miss a potentially historic night for the national team.
Scotland head into the match knowing a positive result against Brazil could significantly improve their chances of progressing beyond the group stage.
Laura Baird, Scottish Divisional Chair at Specsavers, said:
“Nobody in Scotland will want to miss the Brazil match as we look to make history with our first successful major tournament group stage.
“With the finals taking place across the pond, managing the time difference has been a challenge for fans watching at home, but luckily Specsavers are here to help.
“We hope Scotland fans are watching on with joy and fresh eyes, with the option of a Thursday morning lie in up their sleeves as well!”
The light hearted initiative continues Specsavers’ long standing relationship with Scottish football.
The company renewed its sponsorship agreement with the Scottish FA in 2024, extending one of the longest running partnerships in Scottish sport and continuing its role as the governing body’s Official Eye and Ear Care Partner.
For Scotland supporters dreaming of a famous result against Brazil, a bottle of eye drops and a handy excuse for a late start on Thursday morning may prove just as valuable as three points.
