Stephen Flynn has urged voters across Scotland to back the SNP in today’s Scottish election, saying the country has an opportunity to “take Scotland’s energy into Scotland’s hands” through independence.
Polling stations opened across Scotland at 7am this morning as parties made their final push for votes before polls close tonight at 10pm.
The SNP Westminster leader said the cost of living crisis and rising household bills had defined the election campaign.
Stephen Flynn MP said:
“The election today is Scotland’s opportunity to vote SNP to take Scotland’s energy into Scotland’s hands with the fresh start of independence.
“The increasingly unaffordable cost of living in the UK has defined this election.
“Brexit Britain is Broken and Scotland is trapped in a never-ending cycle of soaring bills and constant chaos under Westminster control.
“The fresh start of independence is the opportunity Scotland can’t afford to miss.
“It is the opportunity to use Scotland’s huge energy wealth to lower bills and build a better future, but it will only happen if people unite behind the SNP today.
“Every vote for the SNP will count to secure the strongest possible support with the cost of living and to escape the constant chaos of Westminster control with independence.
“We’ve seen what happens when Scotland’s future is left in Westminster’s hands.
“Families in Scotland are paying the price for Keir Starmer’s broken promises, energy bills that will soon be £700 higher than promised, cuts to the winter fuel payment, the betrayal of waspi women, the closure of Grangemouth and the destruction of thousands of Scottish jobs in the North Sea.
“And now, the very real prospect that Nigel Farage could be the next UK Prime Minister.
“Today, Scotland can choose a better path by voting SNP to send Starmer a message he can’t ignore and put Scotland’s energy in Scotland’s hands with independence.”
The SNP has centred much of its campaign around energy policy, household bills and independence, arguing Scotland should have greater control over its natural resources and economic future.
Results from the Scottish election are expected overnight and into tomorrow morning.
