Eden Court is turning back the clock for its 50th anniversary celebrations with a week long cinema season featuring classics, cult favourites and audience favourites all priced at the original 1976 admission cost of 73p.
The Cinema Flashback season will run from Friday 15 May until Thursday 21 May 2026 at the Inverness venue, celebrating half a century of cinema at the heart of Highland cultural life.
The programme has been built directly from audience nominations and includes a mystery film personally selected by Academy Award winning actor and regular Eden Court cinema visitor Tilda Swinton.
The chosen title will remain secret until the moment it screens on Wednesday 20 May.
The season opens with a gala screening of Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, directed by Martin Scorsese, which was also the very first film shown at Eden Court when the cinema originally opened in April 1976.
The line up spans decades of cinema history with screenings ranging from Hollywood classics through to independent international films and Scottish cinema.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, starring Jack Nicholson, joins the programme alongside modern favourites including Interstellar, Lady Bird and Portrait of a Lady on Fire.
Eden Court will also showcase a number of special 35mm film presentations, maintaining a tradition now rarely seen in Scottish cinemas.
Classic prints being screened on film include Batman, Witness, Local Hero, Orlando and All About My Mother.
The return of The Piano is also expected to attract strong interest after the film originally packed out Eden Court’s Riverside Cinema during the 1990s.
The programme also pays tribute to acclaimed Scottish director Lynne Ramsay with a screening of Ratcatcher, continuing Eden Court’s long standing support for Scottish filmmaking talent.
Accessibility remains part of the season too, with Finding Nemo receiving a relaxed screening designed to make cinema more welcoming and accessible for wider audiences.
Paul MacDonald Taylor, Eden Court’s Head of Film, said the season reflects decades of audience passion and cinema history within the Highlands.
Paul MacDonald Taylor said:
“I’ve spent 30 years watching films at Eden Court, 26 projecting them, and 20 choosing them.
“Cinema Flashback pulls together the very best of what our audiences have asked for, with films from Scotland, Hollywood and around the world.
“It highlights what we do at Eden Court Cinema every week, with thanks to the people that visit us regularly and keep film alive.”
Eden Court remains one of only a small number of cinemas in Scotland still regularly screening traditional 35mm film prints alongside digital cinema.
Tickets for Cinema Flashback are on sale now with every screening priced at 73p.
