Alan Wharton of Places for People has been honoured as a runner-up in the National Grand Final of the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards 2024, marking a significant achievement in the housebuilding sector.
After securing victory in the regional competition in October, Alan competed against the best in the industry at the prestigious awards ceremony in London on 24 January 2025, earning his place as runner-up in the Medium Housebuilder Category for his work at Black Isle View in Inverness.
The NHBC Pride in the Job Awards, often regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding world, celebrate the highest standards of site management, with judges assessing candidates across key areas such as leadership, technical expertise, health and safety, and attention to detail.
Alan expressed his pride in reaching the national stage, stating:
“I’m delighted to have received this recognition.
“When I was first nominated, I never imagined I’d make it to the Grand Final, let alone place as a runner-up.
“These awards are the pinnacle of a site manager’s career, and I’m thrilled to have been acknowledged at this level.
“This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the team at Black Isle View, who continually strive for excellence.”
Colin Jack, Interim Regional Managing Director for Scotland at Places for People, praised Alan’s success:
“We are incredibly proud of Alan’s achievement.
“His high standards and commitment to quality are evident in every aspect of Black Isle View, making it a truly exceptional development.”
NHBC CEO Steve Wood congratulated the winners and finalists, highlighting the crucial role site managers play in delivering high-quality homes:
“While housebuilding is a team effort, the site manager’s leadership and expertise are key to ensuring excellence.
“Alan and all the 2024 Pride in the Job winners and runners-up should be immensely proud of their accomplishments.”
With over 8,000 entrants competing for the coveted title, Alan’s success at the Grand Final cements his reputation as one of the leading site managers in the UK, reinforcing Inverness’s growing recognition for high-quality housing developments.
