The Alliance to Liberate Scotland has called on independence supporters to use their regional list vote differently at the upcoming Holyrood election, arguing it could reshape the balance of power.
The appeal comes as debate continues over how pro independence votes are translated into seats, particularly on the regional list system.
The party argues that past results have shown that simply returning a pro independence majority has not led to constitutional change.
It has positioned the regional vote as a key lever, suggesting it can be used more strategically to influence outcomes.
Greig Macarthur set out the party’s position.
Greig Macarthur said:
“Scottish democracy is not a spectator sport.
“It is the sovereign right of the people of Scotland to decide our own future, to control our own resources and to build an economy that serves the working families of this nation, not the City of London and the vested interests that have run Westminster for generations.
“We have seen what happens when pro-independence votes are split or wasted on the list.
“We have lived through the disappointment of majorities that changed nothing.
“The SNP and the Greens together could not or would not deliver the fundamental break we need.
“That is why we are still wedded to the union, still sending our wealth south, still watching our people struggle week after week under rules written for someone else’s benefit.
“The regional list vote is the decisive lever in your hands on 7 May.
“By voting Alliance to Liberate Scotland on the list you do not dilute the independence cause, you strengthen it.
“You take seats directly from the unionist parties that have no right to them.
“You send a clear message that Scotland will no longer accept devolution’s polite prison.
“You create the force that can finally replace this broken system with a fully sovereign Scottish government answerable only to the people who live and work here.
“And vote for the Alliance to Liberate Scotland candidate if they are standing for the constituency.
“To every SNP supporter who has always voted SNP on both ballots: your loyalty is respected, but loyalty to a method that has not delivered independence is not the same as loyalty to the cause itself.
“The only way forward now is to use your list vote for the Alliance.
“That is how we lock out the unionists and build the unstoppable majority that will force the change Scotland demands.
“And to every independence supporter who has stayed at home, who felt their voice no longer counted, this is your moment to return.
“Your list vote for the Alliance is the single most powerful act you can take.
“It costs you nothing but a cross on a piece of paper, yet it can be the difference between another five years of the same old story and the real beginning of self-government.
“The people of Scotland do not need permission from Westminster to govern themselves.
“We need only the courage to use the power we already hold.
“On 7 May, use your regional list vote for the Alliance to Liberate Scotland and your constituency vote for the Alliance candidate where possible.
“That is how we move forward.
“That is how we win independence.
“That is how we finally put our own people first.”
The regional list system remains a central feature of Scotland’s electoral structure, with parties continuing to debate how best to use it in pursuit of their wider aims.
With the election approaching, how voters choose to use both ballots is expected to play a decisive role in shaping the next Scottish Parliament.
