Highland Built MOTPal Aims to Transform How Drivers Book MOT Tests

A new digital platform developed in the Highlands is aiming to change how drivers across the UK book their MOT tests while giving independent garages the tools to grow.

MOTPal, created in the north of Scotland, has officially launched nationwide with a system designed to remove the delays, missed calls and paperwork that have long defined the MOT process.

For drivers, the platform offers a simple way to find local MOT stations, check availability and book an appointment in seconds using a phone or laptop.

Automatic reminders are built in, helping motorists avoid last minute rushes or the risk of letting their MOT lapse altogether.

The aim is straightforward, to make staying road legal as easy as possible.

Ronnie, who developed the platform, said:

“Drivers want convenience, clarity, and confidence.

“MOTPal gives them all three.

“Booking an MOT should be as easy as ordering a takeaway and now it is.”

For independent MOT stations, the platform goes further, offering a full digital toolkit that brings bookings, customer reminders and diary management into one place.

The system is designed to reduce no shows, fill empty slots and attract new customers without adding to the workload or cost pressures garages already face.

Ronnie said:

“Independent garages are the backbone of the UK’s MOT system.

“MOTPal gives them modern tools without the high costs or complexity of traditional garage software.”

While the platform is launching across the UK, its roots remain firmly in the Highlands, where it has been developed and tested with local drivers and garages.

That grounding has shaped the product into something practical rather than theoretical, built around real issues faced by both motorists and businesses.

Early adopters in the Highlands have already begun using the system ahead of the busy spring MOT period, with positive feedback focused on its speed and ease of use.

Looking ahead, MOTPal is planning further upgrades through 2026, including tools that move the platform beyond booking into ongoing vehicle care.

These include AI driven responses to customer reviews, predictive maintenance alerts based on vehicle history and smart speaker integration that allows drivers to check MOT dates using voice commands.

A spokesperson for MOTPal said:

“We’re just getting started.

“Our ambition is for every UK driver to have MOTPal on their phone, and for every independent garage to have a fair shot at filling their bays.

“The MOT industry is being transformed and Britain’s local garages are leading the way.”

At its core, the platform is a simple idea executed properly, make the process easier for drivers and give local garages a fairer shot in a market that has often favoured larger operators.
