BBC Radio Scotland’s presenters are gearing up to make a splash in the Thousand Mile Swim Challenge for BBC Children in Need 2024
Radio stations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are uniting in this mammoth effort, attempting to swim a combined total of 1,000 miles in just five days.
That’s the equivalent of 64,000 lengths of a 25-metre pool!
Ready to take the plunge for BBC Radio Scotland are presenters Michelle McManus, Zara Janjua, Gary Innes, Jane Lewis and David Currie.
The team will take on the challenge at Allander Leisure Centre in Bearsden.
Kicking off at 8am on Monday, 4th November, the challenge will run through to Friday, 8th November, with each presenter swimming one mile per day to contribute to the team’s total.
Scottish swimming champion Ross Murdoch, who represented Team GB at the 2016 Summer Olympics, will be poolside to cheer the team on and offer some expert advice.
Plus, Scot Squad’s Chief Commissioner Cameron Miekelson will be on hand to fend off any bams!
Listeners can follow the team’s progress by tuning in to BBC Radio Scotland each day, or by streaming on BBC Sounds.
Additionally, the latest updates and behind-the-scenes content will be on the station’s social media channels.
To wrap up this exciting week, audiences can join Jackie Bird who will be presenting a special Children in Need programme on BBC Scotland on the evening of Friday 15th November at 10pm.
This programme will showcase the BBC Radio Scotland presenters’ week-long challenge and feature moving stories from children and young people across Scotland who have benefited from the funds raised through BBC Children in Need.
