The search is back on to uncover the next breakout musical act from the Highlands and Islands, as BBC ALBA and Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival reunite for their much-loved talent search.

After the buzz of last year’s competition, which saw local talent light up the stage, the 2025 edition promises to be even more exciting.

One lucky solo act or band, with at least half its members hailing from Highland postcodes, will win a slot on Belladrum’s iconic Hot House Arena main stage on Thursday 31 July.

It’s a golden opportunity to perform alongside the likes of Texas, Supergrass, Paul Heaton, Tom Walker and Natasha Bedingfield at one of Scotland’s most beloved festivals.

Now in its 21st year, Belladrum continues to champion a rich mix of music, arts and culture in a setting that’s become a summer pilgrimage for thousands.

This year’s winner will also land an acoustic recording session with BBC ALBA during the festival, giving their music a national platform.

Calum McConnell, commissioning editor at BBC ALBA, said the partnership reflects their deep-rooted commitment to spotlighting homegrown talent.

“While there’s nothing like being in a festival field, we’ve always believed in sharing that magic with viewers at home,” he said.

“For over a decade, Belladrum has been a highlight of our summer schedule and now, with this talent search, we’re helping shine a brighter light on the creativity coming from the Highlands and Islands.”

Hopefuls have until 11.59pm on Sunday 8 June to apply, by sending a bio and a music link to tartanheart@bbc.co.uk.

A panel of industry judges — including BBC and Belladrum reps and a festival artist will shortlist the acts before the public vote opens on Friday 13 June.

Festival producer Dougie Brown said the collaboration with BBC ALBA is more than just a stage slot.

“It’s a launchpad,” he said.

“Every year we’re blown away by the talent coming through.

“This moment can be the beginning of something huge.

“Past winners have gone on to great things and we’re proud to be part of that journey.”

Cameron Ferguson, last year’s winner, said the experience was unforgettable.

“Playing Belladrum was surreal,” he said.

“To be on that stage, in front of thousands, so close to home, was the proudest moment of my career so far.”

For those who can’t make it in person, BBC ALBA will be broadcasting the best of the festival live across the weekend, with coverage available on BBC ALBA and BBC iPlayer.

Tune in from Thursday 31 July and discover the future of Scottish music.
