Families Invited to Have Their Say on The Future of School Transport in Moray

Moray Council is calling on families across the region to help shape the future of school transport as it launches a major consultation ahead of key changes.

With current contracts set to run out in the next year, the council is taking the chance to review its Home to School Transport policy to make sure it continues to deliver for the pupils who rely on it most.

Each year, more than £5 million is spent getting children to school safely and on time.

Around 89 percent of eligible pupils currently travel on dedicated school buses, with the rest using council-run vehicles.

But with growing pressure on budgets and increasing demand for flexible, sustainable solutions, the council wants to hear directly from the people who know the service best, pupils and their families.

Key questions in the consultation include how far a child should live from school to qualify for free transport, whether families should be offered mileage payments in certain cases, and how to ensure walking routes are safe and suitable.

The survey is now live and will run until Sunday 8 June, giving families across Moray a window to offer honest feedback on what is working and what needs to change.

All responses will feed directly into the refreshed transport policy, and a full summary of the findings will be published later this summer.

Councillor Bridget Mustard, Deputy Chair of the Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee, encouraged everyone to take part.

She said the goal was to create a school transport system that works for all, one that offers safe, reliable journeys and supports the needs of local families.

“We want to make sure our updated school transport arrangements work for all pupils and families,” she said.

“This consultation is a vital opportunity for everyone to have their say and help shape a system that truly supports our children’s education.”

Whether your child takes the bus every morning or walks part of the way, the council wants to hear your views.

This is your chance to influence a vital service and help build a school transport system that is ready for the future.

To take part in the consultation, visit the Moray Council website before 8 June.
