Moray Council is reaching out to the Speyside community in a fresh bid to shape the future of local schools, kicking off a new phase of public engagement this Monday, 4 November.
This engagement focuses on the sustainability of the Speyside Associated School Group (ASG), examining how well current schools meet the needs of pupils, how efficiently the buildings are used, and the costs involved, all part of a wider effort to modernise the learning estate.
The initiative aims to ensure that each school community is served by facilities that are both fit-for-purpose and financially sustainable, allowing Moray Council to make informed decisions that reflect local priorities.
Following similar engagements in the Forres, Buckie, Elgin, and Keith ASGs, attention now turns to Speyside, where community members are invited to share their perspectives on the future of their schools.
Residents are encouraged to participate in an online survey, open from 4 November to 2 December 2024, providing a convenient platform to voice their ideas and concerns.
For those keen on a more hands-on discussion, Moray Council’s Learning Estate team will be available at two drop-in sessions—one at Tomintoul Library on Monday, 18 November, from 12.30 pm to 3 pm, and another at Aberlour Library on Tuesday, 19 November, from 2.30 pm to 8 pm.
These sessions present an opportunity for residents to learn more about the Speyside schools under review and engage directly with council representatives, fostering a collaborative approach to building a sustainable educational environment.
Cllr Kathleen Robertson, Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee, emphasised the importance of this community input, stating:
“Every young person deserves the best possible start in life, beginning with access to high-quality education tailored to their needs.”
She urged residents to get involved, highlighting the council’s commitment to creating a robust learning environment that serves both current and future generations of students in Moray.
