Highland Council Expands Bus Service to Meet Soaring Demand for Loch Ness Visits

The Highland Council’s In-House Bus team has answered the call from locals and visitors alike by launching a new service to one of the region’s most beloved beauty spots.

Starting this week, a new route known as the 302A will run from Inverness city centre to the picturesque village of Dores, operating Monday to Friday throughout the summer.

This addition complements the existing 302 route, which continues beyond Dores to the enchanting Falls of Foyers, offering breathtaking views and a peaceful stroll along the banks of Loch Ness.

With visitor numbers to Loch Ness continuing to rise, the Council has acted swiftly to ensure easier access to the loch’s famous shores. Councillor Ken Gowans, Chair of the Economy and Infrastructure Committee, explained the decision.

“Due to an unprecedented number of visitors who want to go and see Loch Ness we have created this additional run during the summer season,” he said.

“This gives the visitors time to spend walking and admiring the lovely shores of Loch Ness trying to find that elusive monster.”

The move has also brought welcome news for regular passengers who rely on the route for their daily journeys.

A new ten-journey ticket has been introduced, offering substantial savings compared to purchasing single tickets.

This flexible option is designed to support residents living along the scenic shoreline who use the service frequently.

Tickets for all In-House Bus services can be purchased conveniently online using the MyTrip app, making it easier than ever to plan journeys and secure seats in advance.

The full timetables, including both the new 302A service and the regular 302 route, are available on The Highland Council website.

Whether heading for a peaceful afternoon by the loch or commuting into town, passengers will find all the information they need at their fingertips.

Council staff are looking forward to welcoming both new visitors and familiar faces on board this summer.

With the new service in place, even more people can enjoy the magic of Loch Ness and the surrounding Highland beauty that continues to captivate the world.
