Communities across the Highlands and Islands are set to benefit from nearly half a million pounds in new Scottish Government funding aimed at tackling the climate emergency.
The Highlands and Islands Climate Action Hub will receive £476,952 to support grassroots climate projects throughout the region.
This funding is part of a wider £6 million package being delivered across Scotland in 2025 and 2026.
Local Climate Action Hubs like this one encourage community-led solutions that reflect the unique needs of their areas.
These efforts can range from flood prevention work and repair shops to local energy projects, food growing and tree planting.
The Scottish Government is committed to making sure every part of the country has access to support for local climate action.
There are now 24 Climate Action Hubs across Scotland, helping communities to take the lead on creating greener, more resilient futures.
Caithness, Sutherland and Ross MSP Maree Todd warmly welcomed the announcement.
She said:
“This funding is fantastic news for the Highlands and Islands Climate Action Hub.
“It is a vital step in empowering our communities to lead the transition to a greener, fairer future.”
“The Highlands and Islands Hub is a brilliant example of grassroots action in motion.
“It enables people to take meaningful climate action in ways that work for our area.
“It also brings people together, builds resilience and strengthens our communities.”
Maree Todd added:
“With climate change being one of the biggest challenges we face, we need local solutions as well as national leadership.
“That is exactly what John Swinney’s Government is delivering here in the Highlands and Islands.”
