An Inverness-headquartered firm of solicitors and estate agents has strengthened its family law offering for Highland residents with a new appointment.

Solicitor Meegan Anderson has joined Innes & Mackay’s highly-regarded family law department, supporting clients with delicate legal matters – as well as contributing to the firm’s newly relaunched legal aid services.

With the company set to celebrate its 150 year anniversary in 2024, this latest appointment highlights Innes & Mackay’s continued commitment to providing first-class service to the Highland community.

Meegan said:

“Having lived in the Highlands all my life, I look forward to working closely with the local community, using my legal expertise to assist them wherever I can.

“Innes & Mackay is known across the region, and I’m proud to be joining a fantastic team at such a pivotal moment in the firm’s history.”

Family law is a specialised branch of the legal system that deals with matters related to familial relationships and domestic issues.

It includes cases of divorce, child custody, adoption, spousal support, and property division.

Director Jane Young said:

“With the appointment of Meegan and the strengthening of our service offering, we’re delighted to be in a position where we can look ahead to 2024 and the ways we can better support people across the north of Scotland.

“By expanding our family law team, we can support more clients across a diverse and complex range of cases, utilising our staff’s extensive knowledge and experience to find the best solution for all parties involved.

“As part of this, the firm will also be better equipped to assist and guide clients through legal aid – a service that very few solicitors currently offer, and that we are delighted to once again be able to provide.”

Legal aid in Scotland is made available to those who need assistance to pay their legal fees.

To apply for legal aid you must use a solicitor, who can talk you through the process and what options are available to you, given your circumstances.

The type of legal aid you apply for depends on the type of legal help you need.

Jane continued:

“To have the resources and team available to help deliver this service to clients is a privilege.

“We have always strived to do right by our communities and this is just one of the ways we can support those who want to find resolution but do not necessarily have the means.

“As our team continues to grow in expertise and service offering, we have a lot to look forward to in the months and years ahead – especially next year as we celebrate the firm’s 150th anniversary.”

Innes & Mackay has been a constant presence in the Highlands for generations, providing a wide range of legal services to clients across the region from its base in Inverness.

The firm provides high-quality legal advice in property and land law, estate agency, family law, powers of attorney, wills, executries, guardianships and legal aid.
