Moray Taxi Fare Consultation Underway

A month-long consultation has commenced on proposals to review the maximum fares for taxis operating within the Moray Council area.

As the licensing authority for taxi operators, Moray Council is legally required to review fares every 18 months.

Currently, the maximum fare is set at £3.96 for the first mile, followed by 33p for each additional tenth of a mile. The proposal suggests maintaining fares at this level.

The maximum fare represents the highest charge an operator can apply, though they are free to charge less if they choose.

The consultation is now running and runs until Thursday 20 March, following an informal consultation with Moray taxi operators conducted at the end of 2024.

More details, including how to participate, can be found online

Councillor Paul McBain, Chair of the Licensing Committee, said:

“It’s important that we have a fare structure in place that works for both taxi operators and the public, and this consultation supports us in doing that.”
