The construction of the new Forres Academy has taken a major step forward, with Balfour Beatty confirmed as the main contractor for the project.

Funded as part of the Scottish Government’s Learning Estate Investment Programme (LEIP), the new school is set to welcome pupils by the summer of 2028.

Designed to accommodate 1,120 pupils, the school promises a state-of-the-art educational environment, offering students a modern and innovative space to learn and grow.

The development is part of the North Schools Programme, an ambitious partnership between five local authorities across northern Scotland to revolutionise the region’s learning estates.

This collaborative approach aims to deliver significant financial, social, and economic benefits, setting a new standard for education infrastructure in the area.

Cllr Kathleen Robertson, Leader of Moray Council, described the announcement as a “milestone moment” for Forres and the wider community.

She emphasised that the new school would serve as a dynamic hub for education, benefiting both current and future generations of students in the area.

Cllr Robertson expressed her commitment to ensuring the project delivers outstanding results for pupils, staff, and the local community alike.

Richard Park, Chief Executive of hub North Scotland, highlighted the collaborative nature of the North Schools Programme, praising the shared knowledge, resources, and best practices among partners.

He noted that this teamwork has streamlined key elements of the projects, ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and timely delivery.

Balfour Beatty, a company with extensive experience in delivering world-class educational facilities, is eager to bring the vision for Forres Academy to life.

Hector MacAulay MBE, Managing Director of Balfour Beatty’s regional business in Scotland, expressed pride in the company’s selection as the lead contractor for the project.

MacAulay stated that pre-construction works are already underway, with a focus on close collaboration with Moray Council and hub North Scotland to deliver a modern, sustainable, and inspiring learning space.

The new Forres Academy represents a bold step forward in the region’s educational infrastructure, underlining the benefits of cross-council cooperation in driving forward transformative projects.

As the plans progress, the school is set to become a cornerstone of the community, offering a future-ready environment for learning and development.

With a clear timeline and strong collaboration among partners, Forres Academy is on track to open its doors in 2028, heralding a new era for education in Moray.
