The staff and pupils of Grantown Primary School celebrated the completion of works at their newly refurbished school.

Cllr Bill Lobban, Convener for The Highland Council and local Member said:

“I was delighted to visit the school to join in with the celebration of our newly refurbished primary school.

“The main school and annex building look wonderful with their bright classrooms and improved grounds.

“I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the delivery of this project and for their part in creating a fresh and welcoming environment for pupils to play and work in.”

The project was managed by the Council’s in-house Property Team who oversaw a number of internal and external improvement works to both buildings.

Works to the main school building included a new production kitchen and dining room.

All toilets were refurbished along with the decoration of the classrooms, staff room, games hall, and a secure lobby was created.

The school’s youngest pupils will benefit from the newly refurbished ELC nursey and P1 classroom in the annex building. The building also includes a multipurpose/dining area with servery.

The heating system received an upgrade in both the main school and annex building.

The grounds were given improved safety and security with new permitter fencing.

An outdoor classroom with an adjacent sandpit now has improved external access.

The works were carried out by Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd who spent time forming a good relationship with the school during the project.

Pupils and staff were invited and shown around the site during various stages on construction.

The contractor purchased high-vis vests to ensure the children’s safety and also kindly gifted new sports tops to the school’s athletics team.

Thom Macleod, Managing Director of Compass Building, said:

“I am delighted with the completion of Grantown Primary School, the latest successful project delivered for The Highland Council via the SPA Public Buildings Framework.

“Working in live public premises brings the added dimension of works segregation whilst maintaining a pleasant and ambient environment for staff to deliver the curriculum for each of the classes.

“The successful delivery at Grantown Primary School exemplifies the absolute best outcome that can be achieved when all stakeholders in the process (Designers, Teachers, Builders) communicate efficiently and work together to achieve common goals and this should act as a template of best practice that should be carried forward into all future similar commissions.”

Major refurbishment projects have also recently been undertaken by the contractor at Obsdale Primary School and Dingwall Town Hall in Ross-shire whilst a kitchen upgrade has also in the last month been handed over for the same client at Kingussie High School.

The works at Grantown involved both Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd and their sister Company Orbis Services Limited who oversaw the plumbing, heating and mechanical elements of the refurbishment.
