Oh How The Other Half Live

Commenting on the news that Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner and Rachel Reeves have said they will no longer solicit donations for designer clothes, SNP work and pensions spokesperson Kirsty Blackman MP said:

“While Sir Keir Starmer has been busy lining his pockets with more than £100,000 of freebies, ordinary families have been suffering under the Labour government’s austerity cuts.

“The U-turn that would really matter would be to stop Labour’s cuts to the winter fuel payment and abolish Labour’s two child benefit cap, which is pushing thousands of Scottish children into poverty.

“And when it comes to the Labour Party cash for clothes and freebies scandal there must now be complete transparency on the access and benefits that donors have been given.

“Important questions remain – will Keir Starmer continue to accept free concert tickets, holidays, and hospitality, or will Labour ministers stop accepting freebies?

“Did Rachel Reeves and Angela Rayner seek to cover up these donations by claiming them as support for work duties so the public wouldn’t know?

“What access have Labour donors been given to ministers? How many have been given security passes for the corridors of power?

“And have any been given or promised jobs, peerages or other benefits?

“Voters were promised change but instead the Labour Party is copying the worst excesses of the Tories on sleaze, austerity cuts, and cronyism.

“It’s no wonder they are plummeting in the polls.”
