The hard work and dedication of Orkney Islands Council staff have once again been recognised as finalists for this year’s VIP Awards are unveiled.
The VIP Awards, launched in 2023, aim to highlight exceptional efforts in three categories: Customer Focus, Working Together, and Creativity.
Finalists are chosen from nominations submitted throughout the year, showcasing the dedication of council staff in serving the Orkney community.
Karen Greaves, Corporate Director of Strategy, Performance and Business Solutions at the Council, praised the nominations.
“This reflects the pride our staff take in serving the community and their determination to support each other in achieving the best outcomes for Orkney,” she said.
In the ‘Working Together’ category, the Adult Social Work Team has been acknowledged for their vital role in protecting vulnerable adults.
They collaborate closely with NHS colleagues, police, and informal networks to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the community.
The team’s approachable attitude has left a lasting impression on students and professionals alike.
Tracy Breck, Senior Administrative Officer, is also a finalist in this category. K
nown for her calm problem-solving skills and commitment to teamwork, Tracy’s nomination highlights her ability to balance efficiency with compassion, making a significant impact across OHAC.
In the ‘Customer Focus’ category, Linzi Dunlopp, a P1 teacher at St Andrews, has been celebrated for her exceptional dedication to supporting young children and their families during the transition from nursery to primary school.
Her passion and creativity create a nurturing environment where children thrive.
The Pupil Engagement Team at Kirkwall Grammar School and Papdale Primary has also been recognised for their unwavering support of pupils and families.
From breakfast clubs to holiday activities, their initiatives have improved school attendance and eased transitions for students moving into secondary education.
In the ‘Creativity’ category, David Hibbert, Senior Marine Technical Superintendent, stands out for his innovative approach to keeping Orkney’s ferries operational.
Spending months away from home to oversee repairs, David’s work ensures the reliability of the fleet while pioneering hydrogen and electric ferry technology, setting a benchmark for sustainable transport solutions.
The Council’s Corporate Leadership Team will select winners from the finalists, with the results announced at the annual Awards Ceremony.
Nominations for the next round are already being accepted, and everyone is encouraged to highlight the exceptional work of council staff.
