Public Vote Added as Wheels of Nairn Returns for Sixth Year

A modern and classic car show is taking place for a sixth time and this year, the public is being encouraged to vote for their favourite motor.

Wheels of Nairn will take place on Saturday, September 19 and will see over 300 vehicles descend on the Links in the seaside town.

Organisers of the event, Nairn BID, have introduced a People’s Choice category where visitors to the event can cast a vote for their top vehicle.

Vehicle enthusiasts and people who wish to take a stall at Wheels of Nairn are also being encouraged to sign up and the message is “be quick” as the event is always popular.

Lucy Harding, Nairn BID manager said:

“Wheels of Nairn has grown year on year, in visitor numbers and in the number of vehicles that it attracts.

“Each year, we try to introduce something new and we thought it would be great to get the public involved and have a ‘People’s Choice’ winner, which is chosen on the day itself.”

Lucy added:

“Wheels of Nairn is now well established and all year round we are sent messages from people asking when they can register.

“The answer is now.

“We have changed how we are doing it this year, and people can find the registration link on the Wheels of Nairn Facebook page, as well as the Nairnconnects.com website.

“Wheels of Nairn is a firm feature not only on the Nairn events’ calendar, but it seems to be well respected amongst vehicle enthusiasts too and we have even attracted vehicles from overseas, so we encourage people to get their entries in quickly.”

This year there are 14 categories including pre-1944, show and shine, military and commercial, campervans and club stands and there are many ways people can get involved in the show as Lucy explained:

“We have a sponsorship pack which has opportunities to get involved from as little as £30 as a category sponsor which means your name or business name is attached to one of the 14 categories, you can also become a silver or gold sponsor or even take a demo stand.”

Lucy added:

“With up to 400 vehicles on the Links and visitors from all over Scotland and even further afield, it’s a great opportunity to promote your business.”

Last year, visitors from Austria stole the show by securing the best in show prize.

Anton Hohenauer with his 1989 BMW E30 M3 Evolution 1 and Daniel Dietrich with a 1983 Opel Ascona C ended up joint winners after wowing the judges with their vehicles.

The pair took home a trophy and were presented with a hamper made from treats and gifts from the town’s shops.

The hamper was sponsored by Dean Ross of RM Towbars.

The event attracted thousands of spectators throughout the day and one of the highlights was 110-year-old fire appliance Betsy, who was brought along by the Northeast Scottish Fire Heritage Trust.

A fun car treasure hunt which was a first for last year’s event will also make a come back this year where, in the weeks running up to the event, people are encouraged to visit Nairn town centre and spot miniature cars ‘parked’ in shop windows.

Each car represents a letter, and people are tasked to collect all the letters and work out what the magic words are.

Lucy said:

“Wheels of Nairn really is a fun day out for everyone.

“Whether you are a vehicle enthusiast or not, you can’t help but be wowed by the cars, motorbikes and range of vehicles of on display.”
