A new community colour run taking place in Inverness later this month aims to bring families, young people and local organisations together in a celebration of inclusion, kindness and standing up against bullying and discrimination.
The Safe Strong & Free Colour Run will take place at Torvean Park on Sunday 31 May and is being organised by Safe Strong & Free as part of its wider work supporting children and young people across the Highlands.
Participants of all ages are being encouraged to walk, jog or run through a colourful course filled with music, colour stations and community activities designed to promote positive wellbeing and stronger, more connected communities.
Organisers say the event is about much more than simply a fun day out.
The charity hopes the Colour Run will help reinforce messages around respect, healthy relationships, confidence and belonging while encouraging young people to reject bullying, discrimination and exclusion.
Families attending can also expect a strong community atmosphere with local police officers attending the event to meet children and families in an informal setting while allowing young people to explore police vehicles and engage directly with community partners.
Safe Strong & Free Chief Executive Kerry Lowe said:
“The Colour Run is about bringing our community together and showing that kindness, inclusion and respect matter.
“We want children and young people to grow up knowing they belong, feel valued and understand that bullying and discrimination have no place in our communities.
“This event is a celebration of difference, connection and the positive action we can all take to create safer and kinder environments for everyone.”
The event continues Safe Strong & Free’s preventative work across the Highlands where the organisation works with schools, families and communities to support young people in building resilience, confidence and healthy social connections.
In recent years, concerns around bullying, online abuse, social isolation and youth mental wellbeing have increasingly pushed organisations and community groups to focus on early intervention and positive engagement rather than reactive responses alone.
The Colour Run forms part of that wider effort by creating an event centred around visibility, participation and community spirit in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Organisers are encouraging participants to wear light or brightly coloured clothing as they make their way through the course where coloured powder stations will create the event’s signature festival atmosphere.
The event is open to everyone regardless of age or fitness level with walkers, runners and families all encouraged to take part.
Entry prices have been set at £10 for adults, £5 for children and £25 for a family of four.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses and organisations wishing to support the event.
The Safe Strong & Free Colour Run begins at 11.30am on Sunday 31 May at Torvean Park in Inverness.
