The Scottish Greens have welcomed an endorsement from The Muslim Vote Scotland ahead of Thursday’s Scottish Parliament election, urging voters across the country to back the party on the peach coloured regional ballot.
The endorsement follows the Scottish Greens backing a series of policy pledges supported by The Muslim Vote Scotland, including commitments around tackling inequality, supporting diverse communities and opposing Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The party said the endorsement reflects shared positions on anti racism, inclusion and international issues, particularly around Palestine.
Scottish Greens co leader Gillian Mackay said the support was significant at a time when many Muslim communities feel overlooked or ignored within Scottish politics.
Gillian Mackay said:
“This is a hugely welcome endorsement, and we are grateful to The Muslim Vote Scotland for backing the Scottish Greens on the peach coloured regional ballot in every part of Scotland.
“Muslim communities across Scotland deserve MSPs who will listen, act and stand with them.
“We have proudly opposed Islamophobia and stood against Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, securing a Scottish Parliament vote to support boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel.
“The Scottish Greens want to build a Scotland where every community is valued, where racism is challenged and rejected and where public services work for everyone.”
The endorsement comes during a Scottish election campaign where issues surrounding equality, public services, immigration and international conflict have increasingly shaped political debate.
The Scottish Greens say they want to work more closely with Muslim communities across Scotland on areas including health inequalities, housing and representation.
Gillian Mackay added:
“Too many Muslim communities have been ignored, targeted, misrepresented or taken for granted by politicians for far too long.
“That has to change.
“Green MSPs will work with The Muslim Vote Scotland and communities across the country to tackle health inequalities, implement long overdue recommendations, and explore practical ways to make housing, services and opportunities fairer and more inclusive.”
The Scottish Greens also used the endorsement to draw a wider contrast with Reform UK and other right wing political movements, arguing voters face a choice over the direction Scotland takes.
“At a time when Reform and the far right are trying to divide communities, this endorsement shows the importance of voting for MSPs who will stand up for equality, peace and justice,” Gillian Mackay said.
“Every Scottish Green vote on the regional list can help elect MSPs who will fight for a fairer, kinder and more welcoming Scotland.”
The Muslim Vote Scotland campaign has emerged as a growing political voice during the election period, particularly around issues relating to Gaza, discrimination and political representation within Scotland’s Muslim communities.
