A long-awaited housing boost has arrived in Carrbridge as ten new affordable flats open their doors to tenants.

The new homes, built on the site of the derelict Struan Hotel, mark a milestone in tackling local housing demand.

The development includes eight one-bedroom and two two-bedroom flats, all available for social rent.

Highland Council awarded the construction to Compass Building and Construction Services, based in Inverness.

The project received £1.47 million in support from the Scottish Government’s More Homes Division.

Local demand for smaller homes has grown rapidly, with many residents struggling to find suitable housing.

Council Convener Bill Lobban praised the development as a vital response to community needs.

He highlighted the wider benefits of such projects, from job creation to long-term economic uplift.

The transformation of the former hotel site has been a long-standing goal for the village.

Regenerating this neglected area was a top priority for residents and the Carrbridge & Vicinity Community Council.

Cllr Lobban emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Council, Government and local groups.

He hailed the scheme as proof that community support and partnership can unlock real change.

The name ‘Struan Court’ is a nod to the hotel that once stood on the same ground.

Cllr Glynis Campbell Sinclair, Chair of the Housing and Property Committee, also welcomed the project.

She said the flats not only provide new homes but breathe life into an underused site.

Struan Court adds to the growing stock of social housing in the area, including at the nearby Carr Road site.

The new flats form part of a wider push to improve housing across the Highlands.

Under the Highland Housing Challenge, the Council aims to meet both social need and regeneration goals.

The Strategic Housing Investment Plan commits to 500 new affordable homes each year until 2028.

Around 70% of these homes are expected to be for social rent, with the rest for low-cost ownership or mid-market rent.

Cllr Campbell Sinclair thanked everyone involved in making Struan Court a reality.

She offered her best wishes to the new tenants as they settle into their homes.

This development stands as a testament to community spirit and the value of public investment.

Carrbridge now has a stronger future thanks to a bold vision, delivered.
