Three Major Coastal Protection Projects Completed in Moray

Three crucial projects aimed at shielding Moray’s coastal communities from erosion have now been successfully completed.

A new 50cm shingle bank has been constructed in Kingston, running between Lein Car Park on the west side of the village and the main shingle ridge at the lagoon to the east.

Meanwhile, heavy boulders known as ‘rock armour’ have been strategically placed along Findhorn Road (B9011) after last year’s severe coastal erosion left the area vulnerable.

In a further effort to safeguard the region, coastal monitoring stations have been installed at multiple locations across Moray, allowing residents to use their mobile phones to capture and submit images of the coastline.

These images will be vital in tracking changes over time and will contribute to Moray Council’s Coastal Adaptation plans.

Chair of the Economic Development and Infrastructure Services Committee, Councillor Marc Macrae, hailed the projects as key steps in strengthening the long-term resilience of coastal communities.

He emphasised that ongoing efforts to combat erosion across Moray are essential in protecting homes, infrastructure, and the natural environment.

He added that adapting and responding to the ever-changing coastal landscape is critical, and these measures form an integral part of that strategy.

The completion of these projects marks significant progress in tackling the growing threat of coastal erosion in Moray.

As climate change accelerates the rate of coastal change, communities must continue to work together to implement sustainable and effective protection measures.

With these new defences in place, Moray is better prepared to withstand the challenges posed by an unpredictable coastline.
