The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is thrilled to announce its impressive performance in the 2024 National Student Survey (NSS).

UHI has surpassed both its benchmarks and the Scottish sector average, reinforcing its commitment to delivering high-quality education and support to its students.

UHI achieved an overall satisfaction rate of 81.2%, which is above the benchmark of 80.7% in 2023 and this year’s Scottish sector average of 78.1%.

This places UHI 6th in Scotland for overall satisfaction.

Conducted annually by Ipsos MORI, the NSS gathers feedback from final-year undergraduate students across the UK.

This year’s survey results highlight UHI’s strengths and continued improvements in several key areas.

The university improved its results in almost all themes compared to 2023, with notable increases in their students’ association, academic support, and teaching.

Several programmes stood out with exceptional satisfaction rates, including:

  • BSc (Hons) Audio Engineering (100%)
  • BA (Hons) History (100%)
  • BSc (Hons) Sport and Fitness (93%)
  • BSc (Hons) Marine Science (92%)

Vicki Nairn, UHI Principal and Vice-Chancellor, expressed her pride in the achievements:

“These outstanding results are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff and the vibrant academic environment we create.

“We are committed to continuing to provide an exceptional educational experience that meets the needs and aspirations of our students.”

Dr Iain Morrison, UHI’s Dean of Student Experience’ added:

“This is yet another outstanding performance for UHI in the latest National Student Survey, reflecting exceptional student satisfaction across our university.

“The students’ evaluation of their time with us highlights our commitment to delivering an unparalleled educational experience, fostering both academic excellence and personal growth.

“I am extremely grateful not just to our students for their fantastic ratings and feedback on their experiences, but also to our wonderful staff who made it happen once again.”

Students’ Association President William Campbell welcomed the results, saying:

“It’s not every day that you get to celebrate an incredible thing like these set of NSS results.

“We know that our members, the students of UHI, have given us a huge thumbs up – confident in our work with student representation, clubs, societies, networks, our advice service and our policy work.

“We’re looking forward to an incredible next academic year here at the Students’ Association and to everyone who filled in the NSS and have supported our work.

“Thank you.”
